PDF to Excel is a spacing guess

People search for PDF to Excel because a statement, an invoice, or a price list is trapped in a PDF. This tool can pull that text into a sheet. It cannot see the table the way a person sees the rules and the merged headers.

How a column is chosen

Words that sit close together stay in one cell. A wide gap, including the large space a PDF reader inserts between columns, starts a new cell. The same horizontal positions are lined up down the page. A title that spans the page sits in the left cell and leaves the other cells blank.

If every line becomes one cell, the file did not have a gap wide enough to call a column. The status line says so. You still get a one-column sheet, which is often the honest result for a letter or a paragraph-heavy report.

The box on the page shows the first rows before you download. Read them. If the amounts have landed in the wrong column, the guess is not useful for that file. Downloading will not fix the alignment.

One sheet, and what the cells contain

Pages are stacked in one worksheet. There is no second sheet per page. When the PDF has more than one page, a row reading Page N is inserted before that page's rows so you can see the break. A single-page file does not get that marker.

A page with no selectable text becomes a row that says so. A scan with no text layer is empty. This tool does not run OCR. Run PDF to Word with English OCR only if the page is printed English and you need the words, not a grid.

Merged cells, ruled borders, and multi-line cells are not reconstructed. Numbers are the text that was on the page, not Excel formulas. If a column of amounts will not sum, convert those cells to numbers in Excel. Nothing on this page calculated them.

XLSX, CSV, and the 80-page cap

Download XLSX or CSV. The CSV is UTF-8 with a byte-order mark so Excel is more likely to open accents correctly. Neither file is a replica of a designed spreadsheet.

The tool reads at most 80 pages. Password-protected PDFs are refused.

Use this on bank exports, simple invoices, and price lists where the columns are already separated by obvious space. Do not use it on a scanned table, a brochure, or a sheet whose meaning depends on merged headers.

Check the preview before you trust a total

The on-page box shows the first rows joined with a vertical bar. Read across one data row and count the bars. If a description and a price that should be in different columns are still in one cell, the gap was too small and the guess did not fire. Widening nothing on this page will fix that. The PDF has to be exported again from the system that made it, with clearer column spacing, or you type the sheet yourself.

A multi-page statement inserts Page 2, Page 3, and so on as their own rows. Those rows are markers, not transactions. Delete them before you sort or sum, or your totals will treat the word Page as data. A one-page file does not insert that marker, so a single invoice will not have it.

An empty page inside a mixed file becomes the sentence that no selectable text was found. The pages before and after it are still converted. Do not throw out the whole sheet because one scanned attachment was empty.

Questions

Why did my scan produce an empty sheet?

A scan is a picture. There is no text to split into cells. This tool does not OCR.

Can I get one worksheet per page?

No. Everything is stacked in one sheet. Multi-page files insert a Page N row as a divider.

Will SUM work immediately?

Not always. The cells are copied text, not formulas. Convert numeric columns in Excel if they are stored as text.
