Add Watermark

This adds a mark. It does not remove one. Use Watermark Remover for a mark you are allowed to paint out. Run this tool again if you need both text and a logo.

Open a photo, then drag the mark or pick a corner.

Put your name, a copyright line, or a logo on a photo. Position it, fade it, or repeat it across the frame. The picture is not uploaded.

What gets written into the file

The mark is painted into the pixels. A later save, a screenshot, or a social upload keeps it. It is not a separate layer, and it is not a copyright line in the file metadata. Someone can still crop a corner mark off. A tiled mark is harder to crop without cutting the photo.

Text uses a font installed on your computer. If a name looks different on another machine before you download, that is the font list, not the file. After you download, the letters are pixels and no longer depend on that font. A logo should be a PNG with transparency. A JPG logo brings its own white or black box.

One pass stores either text or a logo. To put a name and a logo on the same photo, download once, then open that file and add the second mark. JPG is the smaller photo file. PNG keeps a transparent logo edge and hard type. Photos over 16 megapixels are scaled before the mark is drawn, and that scaled size is what you download. If you need a set width before the mark, use Image Resizer first.

How to use

  1. Open the photo. Text mode is selected, with a sample line you can replace. A line break in the box becomes a second line.
  2. Pick a corner, or drag the preview. Tile repeats the mark. Spacing controls how far apart the copies sit.
  3. Switch to Logo image and choose a PNG if you want a picture mark. A logo with transparency keeps its transparent pixels.
  4. JPG is smaller. PNG keeps hard edges and logo transparency. Photos larger than 16 megapixels are scaled first.

Limits

One mark at a time: text or logo. To stack both, download, then run the tool again on that file. The font list is the set installed on your computer. This paints pixels. It does not write a copyright claim into the file metadata. It also does not remove a mark that is already on the photo. That job is Watermark Remover. If the file still carries a location, run EXIF Viewer on the download.

Questions

Will the watermark survive a screenshot?

It is painted into the pixels, so a normal save or screenshot keeps it. Someone can still crop it off if you place it only in a corner.

Why does tiled text look uneven?

The copies follow a fixed step based on the text size. Very short words leave more empty space than a long line. Raise the size or lower the spacing.

Can I edit the words later?

No. After download the letters are pixels. Keep an unmarked copy of the photo if you might want a different line.

The logo has a white box.

JPG has no transparency. Export the logo as PNG, with the background already transparent, and choose that file as the logo image.

Is the photo uploaded?

No.
