Text on GIF
Drag the words on the preview to move them. Adding text rebuilds the GIF, so colors drop to 256. A long side over 900 pixels is scaled down first.

Open a GIF. The canvas shows frame 1 with your caption.
Put a caption on every frame of a GIF, or send that caption across the frame. Timing of the original frames is kept. The new file is built in this tab.
Where the words go
The preview is the first frame, with your caption drawn on it. Drag the words to move them. The horizontal and vertical sliders follow the drag, and the download uses that same place on every frame. If a scroll motion was selected, dragging switches it back to Stay put so the words land where you dropped them.
A line break in the caption box starts a new line, up to four. Outline is what keeps white type readable on a bright frame. Size is a percent of the frame width, so the same setting stays in proportion if the GIF is scaled down. Fonts are the ones installed on your computer. After encoding, the letters are pixels in the GIF, not live text.
Adding text always rebuilds the file. GIF cannot keep a full-color photo, so the encoder picks 256 colors per frame. Dithering trades smooth bands for grain. Scroll left or scroll right moves the words once per existing frame. It does not invent in-between frames, so a short GIF will step, not glide. Frames wider or taller than 900 pixels are scaled down first, which keeps the type from being encoded as a blur.
How to use
- Open a GIF. The preview is the first frame, so you can place the words before encoding the rest.
- A line break in the caption box starts a new line, up to four lines. Outline is what keeps white type readable on a bright photo.
- Drag the words on the preview, or use the horizontal and vertical sliders. Stay put keeps that spot. Scroll left or scroll right moves the words across the frames you already have. Dragging switches a scroll back to Stay put. A 2-frame GIF will not look like a smooth ticker.
- Download GIF. Encoding time grows with frame count and size. The looping preview under the button is the new file.
Limits
The result is a new GIF, so gradients and photos pick up banding or dither speckle. Fonts are whatever your computer has. There is no per-frame caption and no curved text. Scroll speed is one pass across the frames that exist, not a frames-per-second you set.
GIFs wider or taller than 900 pixels are scaled down before the text is drawn. The same frame and pixel-count caps as Split GIF apply. If you need the frames as PNG instead of a caption, use that page. If you are starting from still photos, build the file in Images to GIF first.
Questions
Why did the colors change?
GIF cannot keep a full-color photo. The encoder picks 256 colors per frame. Dithering trades smooth bands for grain.
The scroll jumps.
The words move once per existing frame. Add more source frames, or accept a stepped move. This page does not generate in-between frames.
Dragging does nothing while Scroll is selected.
Scroll replaces the horizontal position on purpose. Dragging the preview switches the motion back to Stay put and then uses the point where you dropped the words.
The type looks soft.
The GIF was scaled down if a side was over 900 pixels, and the encoder only has 256 colors. Raise the size a step, keep the outline on, and turn dithering off if the edge of the letters looks noisy.
Is the GIF uploaded?
No.
