— — — Move over the image to preview a pixel. Click to lock it. The file stays on your device.
Read the exact color under your pointer and copy it as HEX, RGB, or HSL. Useful for matching a brand color, a UI swatch, or a print sample without sending the picture anywhere.
How to use
- Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP. HEIC from an iPhone has to be converted first (use HEIC to JPG).
- Move across the image. The swatch and the magnifier follow the pixel under the pointer.
- Click to lock that color. Copy HEX, RGB, or HSL, or click a chip in the palette.
What the numbers mean
HEX is the six-digit web color, for example #0369A1. RGB is the same color as three channels from 0 to 255. HSL is hue, saturation, and lightness, which is easier to nudge if you only want a lighter version of the same hue.
The sample is one pixel of the image as loaded. A photo that was heavily compressed can put a fringe of neighboring colors around text and logos. Click the flat area of a shape, not the anti-aliased edge, if you want the intended color.
Questions
Is the image uploaded?
No. It is drawn on a canvas in this tab. Closing the tab drops it.
Can I pick a color from a screenshot?
Yes. PNG screenshots are the cleanest, because they are not recompressed.
Why does the edge of a letter give a muddy color?
Screens anti-alias text. Sample the middle of the stroke, not the gray pixels on the rim.
